Brandon C. Baker
By day, "Bake" is a business reporter at The News-Herald, a medium-sized, daily newspaper in suburban Cleveland. He's also a family oriented, community volunteering, fun-loving bachelor.
A look into his other side, though, reveals a three-headed, extreme enthusiast.
Hip-Hop, the NBA and the NFL are not only three of Baker's most beloved passions, but that trifecta also represents the topics Suite101 readers can expect him to deliver content about. While others banter on about American Idol or the latest feature film they've seen, Baker can be found scouring through his massive CD collection or engaging in an intense debate with friends regarding the best MC's in the game. It's equally as intense when he discusses the purest pigskin passers or the thunderous dunks of b-ball greats, past and present.
Before his gig at the Herald, Baker graduated from The Ohio State University in 2005. There, he earned a bachelor's degree in Public Affairs Journalism. Perhaps the most integral part of that process was a stint at OSU's student newspaper, The Lantern, where Baker wrote album reviews, and even got to interview Chicago rapper, Twista. Baker also wrote about hip-hop for U-Weekly an independent student newspaper at OSU.
Baker is a versatile writer, as evidenced by his business stories about everything in between small "mom and pop" startups and Fortune 500 corporations, or his contributions to the Universe Bulletin, the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland's official publication. But it's an ill verse from Method Man or a no-look pass from LeBron James that gets Bake going. He has aspirations to write novels, non-fiction works and later direct a documentary or two. Writing for Suite101's audience is a welcome addition to Baker's plate.
